Everyone collects utilities, and most folks have a list of a few that they feel are indispensable.  Here's mine.  Each has a distinct purpose, and I probably touch each at least a few times a week.  For me, util means utilitarian and it means don't clutter my tray.  If it saves me time, and seamlessly integrates with my life, it's the bomb.

Here are most of the contents of my C:/UTILS folder. These are all well loved and used.  I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't use them constantly.

This page includes a huge list of life changing utilities for you.

CcPublisher 2 – Creative Commons License Publisher Tool

leave a comment

cc logo

(requires download)

ccPublisher is Creative Commons’s tool for generating license information for a file and optionally uploading it to the Internet Archive for free hosting. ccPublisher also serves as a platform for development of other CC enabled tools.

This is the first release of ccPublisher 2 which we believe to be generally usable. We have successfully uploaded photos and text to the Internet Archive using this build without any problems. There are undoubtedly bugs remaining and areas that need polish; your feedback will help track down those areas and provide suggestions.

This release includes “phone home” code to open an issue in the ccPublisher Tracker when a crash occurs. This new tracker is located at http://roundup.creativecommons.org/ccpublisher; all feature requests and bugs are tracked there. When a crash occurs, you are no longer prompted for your email address — if you authorize ccPublisher to upload the crash information, you are provided with a link to the web page so you can follow progress. You can add yourself as a “nosy” account (and receive email when updated) or subscribe to the RSS feed of activity.

Qliner hotkeys

leave a comment

Free, open source software Qliner hotkeys is a keyboard shortcut application similar to previously-mentioned app WinKey.

Hotkeys builds on the concept of Windows shortcut keys but takes this concept to a whole new level. Do you think key combinations are hard to remember? Just hold the Windows key for three seconds and up pops a Onscreen Keyboard with icons on the keys that are configured. This you can you use , not only to remind you of hotkey combinations, but also for Drag and Drop Configuration.

As an added bonus for laptop users whose Windows key is non-existent or inaccesible, hotkeys allows you to map the Windows key to your Caps Lock key.
